Measuring g

In this simulation a ball is dropped from a height and a graph of velocity against time is plotted. From this, students are asked to calculate the acceleration of the ball, and realise that this is the acceleration due to gravity.

This item teaches:

  • the equation: force = mass x acceleration
  • how velocity-time graphs are constructed
  • about graphical representations of the variations of g and V with r
  • the definition of g as force per unit mass
