AM Radio

Added by Craig Napier on Dec 15, 2008

This activity looks at AM radio signals and explains the terms modulate, amplitude modulation, frequency modulation, carrier wave, and detection. Circuit models of radio transmitters, and graphs of the audio signal and carrier wave, allow students to investigate the wave patterns involved in AM processes.

This item teaches:

  • about the amplitude of sound
  • about the diffraction of waves
  • about carrier waves
  • about amplitude modulation
  • the detection of radio waves
  • about modulation
  • the patterns of waves involved in AM processes
