Oxides and Water
Added by Dr. Martin Armitage on Dec 15, 2008
This activity shows students how oxides of different types affect the pH of water and that not every oxide affects the pH of water. In particular, simulations show that oxides of non-metals appear to produce acids when added to water and oxides of metals appear to give alkalis when added to water.
This item teaches:
- about the reactants and products involved in acid/ metal oxide reaction
- about non metal oxides as acids
- about metal oxides and hydroxides as bases
