One of your teachers has joined our Leader in Technology initiative and has asked you to install Yenka. This document contains information for IT Administrators.

What is Yenka?

Yenka is a suite of software created by Crocodile Clips Ltd for teaching Mathematics, Science, Technology and Computing. You can read more about Yenka here.

What is the Leader in Technology (LiT) initiative?

The Leader in Technology initiative aims to help teachers by giving them access to our software. In return for their interest and feedback, we provide them with free licences for our products covering their subject area. Only one teacher per subject area per school is able to join the initiative, and access is controlled by a username and password.

Do we need a licence?

  • You can install Yenka without any licences.
  • Your school does not need to purchase any licence to allow a LiT teacher to use the software.
  • As an IT Administrator, you do not need to register on the website, simply download and install the software.

Where do I download Yenka?

You can download installers for Windows (including MSI and CC3 Network Installers) and Macintosh from the downloads page.

We already have one or more Yenka products, do I need to do anything?

If you have Yenka version 2.7.2 or later, you do not need to do anything. However, we always recommend that users run the latest version of the software where possible.

If you have an earlier version you'll need to upgrade. You can find the latest downloads (including network installers) on the downloads page.

Do I need to do anything else?

Yenka requires an internet connection in order to verify that the teacher is a member of the LiT initiative. As such, any local and/or network firewall must allow Yenka to connect to our licence server.

Licence Server: yenka.com
Ports used: Port 80 only

In addition, where applicable for your network, you may need to configure proxy server details. Further information can be found here.

This internet connection is used only to verify licence information. Details can be found in our End User Licence Agreement.

Further Information

  • The LiT licence information is stored in the user's home directory/profile so they will be able to use the software on any computer where roaming profiles are supported or where their home directory is mounted.
  • If your network does not support roaming profiles/home directories, the user will have to follow the simple LiT - Activation instructions on each machine where they wish to use the software. This is as simple as logging on, so should not present a barrier to usage.

Finally

Please let the teacher who made this request know once you have installed the software.

If you have any problems, please contact us.
