Half-Wave Rectification with Smoothing Capacitor
Added by R D Gavin on Dec 15, 2008
This model shows how a diode can change an a.c. signal to a d.c. signal. Graphs of the input and output voltages clearly show the half-wave rectification. A capacitor is then included in the circuit to demonstrate its action in smoothing the d.c. signal.
This item teaches:
- about capacitors
- about half-wave rectification
- about the use of a capacitor to block the d.c. component of a mixed a.c./ d.c. signal
- about the use of diodes to convert an alernating current to a direct current
