Cell Direction

This activity is designed as an introduction to the operation of cells. Two circuits to operate torches are provided, and the student inserts several cells in different directions to investigate the effect on the torch brightness.

This item teaches:

  • about the symbols used in circuit diagrams
  • about the current supplied by cells and batteries
  • about the connection of batteries in series

  • Pupils should understand the effect on total voltage of reversing cells in a supply.
