What does the model show?

This model demonstrates the use of a tuned circuit to give a maximum output with a particular frequency. It also shows the use of a diode to get a non-zero average signal at the output.

Demonstration Instructions

  1. Use the signal generator pane to adjust the frequency of the input signal. The output signal will diminish, as the input is at the resonant frequency on loading.
  2. Close the switch to bypass the diode. Listen to the sound output and point out that the average signal is zero without the diode. Explain that this principle is used in the decoder stage of a radio.
  3. To reload the simulation and graphs simply press F5 on the keyboard.
