Yenka Cyberpet
Cyberpet Project

Together with Revolution Education (www.picaxe.com), we have developed a new project for Yenka.
Designed for KS3/S1-S3 (age range 11-14), the Cyberpet Project introduces electronic monitoring and control. A PICAXE* microcontroller controls an electronic pet with LED 'eyes' and a piezo sounder 'voice' that reacts to touch (via a push switch) and light (via a miniature LDR).
The project includes teacher notes, student worksheets and circuit ideas, and takes you through the design process step-by-step:
- designing and testing the electronic circuit, using Yenka Electronics;
- writing a program for the PICAXE, using Yenka PICs;
- designing the Printed Circuit Board, routing tracks and modelling a 3D PCB using Yenka PCBs;
- exporting the Printed Circuit Board design and sending the program from Yenka to a real microcontroller*.
You can then build the Cyberpet PCB, using Revolution Education's PICAXE microcontroller; the hardware kits are available from www.picaxe.com.
Free download

You can download the project for free by clicking on the link below:
Cyberpet (PDF, Adobe Reader version 7.0 or later recommended)
This is subject to copyright. Permission to copy and modify any of the cyberpet notes is provided only to schools and teacher trainers.
We've also got some sample files that you can find in our online repository of free Yenka content. Click here to go back to our main page and search for our Cyberpet Project models.
As always, your comments and feedback are most welcome.
Purchasing the hardware
You can buy the Cyberpet student kits hardware from Revolution Education www.picaxe.com.

Purchasing our software
To get the most our of this teaching resource, you will need to have a copy of the Yenka plugin (2.0 or later). You will also need a copy of the Yenka Technology addon. Both of these downloads are freely available on our website.
To complete the programming modules, all you need is a Yenka PICs licence, which is also available for free. Click here to find out more about downloading Yenka and registering for a free PICs licence.
To complete the circuit design section you will need a Yenka Electronics licence. You will also need a Yenka PCBs licence if you would like to complete the Printed Circuit Board design section. These licences are available for purchase. Visit our Yenka Products page to find out more.
